Natural Resource Management
In the world of today it is more important than ever to practice effective natural resource management (NRM). Natural resources are precious, and in Australia there are many, and must be
managed as to ensure they exist in the future as many of the current sources are finite.
With the limited availability of essential natural resources it is important for effective management plans to be put in place. This can include restrictions (eg. water restrictions seen
in many areas of Australia) as well as research and development in the areas of alternate energy sources (eg. wind farming, desalination, tidal energy, etc) and technolgy to aid in
decreasing consumption levels. Another important part of natural resource management is monitoring and minimising the negative impacts of consumtion and output, particularly with fossil
fuels and the impacts on global warming. This is to ensure that Australia's iconic, precious, and unique landscapes and environments are protected whilst also maintaining a high quality
of life for humans and native fauna and flora alike.
Whether it be water, ore (metals and minerals), flora (food and medicinal purposes), or fossil fuels such as coal, oil, or natural gas, all these natural resources must be managed for
environmental and economic purposes. The potential impacts of low reserves of these resources would be catastrophic and thus forward thinking management plans are paramount.
